Humans tend to experiment with everything that could be used to enhance life. This curiosity has now led to very different thinking – Human Augmentation which means taking the help of the latest technologies that have been developed over the years like Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things, which will not only enhance our day to day lives but also take human intelligence a step further.

In simple terms, human augmentation (sometimes referred to as “Human 2.0”) focuses on creating natural, artificial, or technological up-gradation in the human body for the enhancement of physical and mental capabilities.

An example of this is using active control systems to create limb prosthetics with characteristics that can exceed the highest natural human performance. The companies that are investing in Human Augmentation: Neuralink, Google, Samsung, Ekso Now the question arises how does human augmentation work?

Human augmentation is a developing field of research that aims to upgrade human abilities by using medicine or technology. This has already been achieved by consuming chemical substances that can improve a selected ability in your body or by inserting implants that require medical operations. Presently, this advancement has been focused on helping help people with disabilities with bionics and prosthetic augmentation and also curing sickness by experimenting with genes.

Types of Human Augmentation

Rob Tracinski a freelance journalist and author have identified 5 technologies for the enhancement of augmentation. In his discussion, he identified both physical and mental targets of these technologies as well as permanent and temporary items.

  • Bionics and Prosthetics (artificial limbs)
  • Brain-Computer Interfaces
  • Neurotechnology (brain implants)
  • Nootropics (“mind” drugs)
  • Gene Editing (in our scheme, these would be “physical” and “direct”)

Similarly, Elise Bohan a doctoral student at Macquarie University’s Big History Institute has identified 10 “body modification” technologies and predicted that we will be able to see them in the next decade. They are as following:

  • RFID Chips
  • Exoskeletons
  • Real-Time Language Translation
  • Augmented Vision
  • Smart Contact Lenses
  • 3D-Printed Body Parts (she distinguishes these from lab-grown parts)
  • Smarter Drugs
  • Brain-Computer Interfaces
  • Designer Babies
  • Enhanced Sexual Organs

What The End Result Might Look Like

After going through the changes that augmentation will be bringing bring to the human body, one can't help but wonder how the optimum augmented human might look like, or what will be the final goals achieved by it. That will soon be known to us because as of today enhancing is possible for almost all human body parts.

After knowing what augmentation will offer us, people will still be skeptical about making this advancement in the field of technology mainstream. In addition to everything, augmentation needs the internet to work smartly, so that no serious security issues should occur that will eventually interfere with the actions of augmented humans. This will be the utmost concern for the people when this idea will be brought to everyone's knowledge.

But as time passes, it could be possible that society’s views might change on this. Currently, a similar situation is being witnessed with AI. Thus, whatever human augmentation will bring will be seen in the foreseeable future.

Wrapping up

Just when we think that technology couldn't get any better we are introduced to new things that perform in ways that we thought weren’t even possible! Human Augmentation is just one of the many life-changing technologies that have been introduced over these past few decades.

Out with the old, in with the new! Amazon recently rolled out a new icon for their shopping app, after netizens compared it to Hitler's moustache.

Amazon trolled over new app logo that ‘looks like grinning HITLER’

Highlights:

  • Amazon changed the icon of its official app.
  • The app's logo resembles the moustache of the German dictator, Adolf Hitler.
  • Amazon made a slight change on the app's icon.

The world's leading e-commerce company Amazon has changed the icon of its official app. The company changed the icon for the first time in more than 5 years.  Changes were made following the comments that compared the logo of its app to Hitler's moustache. Netizens said that the blue-colored tape, situated above the company's signature smiling arrow logo, had an uncanny resemblance to the infamous toothbrush moustache worn by a nazi dictator, Adolf Hitler.

The company had rolled out the redesigned app logo in January but soon after comparisons with a particular style of moustache that was flaunted by Charlie Chaplin and Adolf Hitler, Amazon had to alter the logo.

Following the customer's feedback, Amazon made a slight update to the app's icon. The company's spokesperson said that 'Amazon always finds new ways to delight customers. He further added that the company designed the new icon to spark anticipation, excitement, and joy when customers start their shopping journey on their phone, just as they do when they see our boxes on their doorstep.

What changes we can see in the new logo ?

The new logo design has now started appearing on the App Store. The updated icon still features the blue tape on top, but without the jagged edge. The blue tape has been changed to look like someone is tearing the tape. As a whole, the logo now displays a curved arrow with Amazon's signature on the Amazon app, which looked like a smile. Brown background cardboard, which was earlier visible during the delivery of the Amazon product.

Let me tell you that this is not the first time that Amazon has come into controversy for using the Nazi image. In 2015, a poster of the Amazon Prime show 'Man in the High Castle' was put on the metro rail in New York. During this time, many riders had told that they have objections to this poster and if it looks like a Nazi symbol, then it should be changed.

Lately, brands have been conscious of the brand images. It shows a great deal on their part to what we call is LISTENING to the audience. This is not the first time that users have not liked the logo of any company. A few months ago, a female activist objected to the e-commerce site Myntra that the logo is vulgar to women and should be replaced immediately. After the complaint by the Mumbai-based women activist to the cyber police, this matter also got trolled on social media and the company had to change its logo.

I would like to know from you guys, Are we looking into logos and their meaning a little too deeply than what they are intended to be? What's your opinion on the logo designs?

Thеrе wаs а timе whеn thе SIM cаrds wе usеd wеrе brоаdеr. Thеn cаmе thе mini-sim cаrds. Thоsе whо hаd оld phоnеs hаd tо dо еxtrа brаinstоrming tо insеrt а SIM. But thе quеstiоn аrisеs Hоw? Then cаme e-SIM.

Whаt is е-SIM?

е-SIM оr еmbеddеd univеrsаl intеgrаtеd circuit cаrd is а fоrm оf prоgrаmmаblе SIM cаrd thаt is еmbеddеd dirеctly in yоur dеvicе. Highlights:

  • Sandes is a homegrown App by the Indian Government.
  • Basic features are similar to WhatsApp.
  • It is available on the Apple Store as Sandes
  • Sandes is free and there are no ads in the app
  • It is named as GIMS(Government instant messaging system) in android
  • It is not available on the Play Store but you can download it from the official government website www.gims.gov.in/dash/dlink

Sandes, an instant messaging app of the Government of India and an Indian alternative to WhatsApp, is now accessible to all. This app has been launched by the National Informatics Center (NIC), promotes PM Narendra Modi's Digital India and Atmanirbhaar Bharat (Self-reliant India) initiatives.

The Sandes app can be used by both government officials and personal users. It requires a mobile number or government email ID for sign-up. Once signed up, users can send and receive messages as well as create new groups. The app also supports media file transactions. There is also a section called "Gimoji", which displays symbols used in official communication.

After Koo, which is seen as an alternative to Twitter, the government has its eyes on WhatsApp as it brings Sandes, an instant messaging platform.

If u want to know more about koo, click on the link given below

Is Koo App The Next Twitter?

Now, let's find out whether this messaging app is better than the already installed platform called WhatsApp.

If one looks at the app, its interface is very similar to WhatsApp and this app includes the same features. The main difference between Sandes and WhatsApp is that there is an option to sign up using an email ID and not just a phone number. Previously, it was available only to government officials. WhatsApp only allows you to create an account using your number.

Also, it has verified accounts on its platform, which are not available on WhatsApp. Sandes allows users to share videos or photos up to 500MB while WhatsApp offers the option to send videos with regular files of up to 16MB and 100MB. There is an option which enables you to create a backup of your chats over email as well , which is not the case in whatsapp as it only allows you to create a backup on either Google Drive or iCloud for respective android and ios users .

Meanwhile, the Sandes app does not allow mobile numbers or email IDs to be changed after creating an account. So, if you have a new mobile number or your email ID is lost, you will have to create a new account and all your chats will be lost. Whereas WhatsApp helps to change the phone number without deleting their existing profile.

Currently, Sandes does not have the fingerprint lock feature and screen lock feature, which WhatsApp provides. However, Sandes offers to check the weather details of the city in the app.

Like WhatsApp and other popular instant messaging apps, the Sandes (which can be read as "messages" in Hindi) app developers claim that the app is encrypted end-to-end. The application can be used to send and receive messages or to share media files with contacts. There is also a feature of contact sharing and group chat. Apart from this, users can also broadcast messages. Sources in the government have also confirmed to NDTV that the government is also working on an app named Samvad (which means dialogue). An official of MITY told NDTV that "These apps are being fully developed by the Indian government. It will be an instant messaging app like WhatsApp. "

What data does Sandes collect from users and say about security?

According to the Sandes App's privacy policy, all messages in an individual or group chat are "end-to-end encrypted to ensure secure communication". The policy clearly states that the system "does not sell or share any personally identifiable information to any third party, except as covered by law enforcement/courts, etc.

Sandes App can be run on which devices ?

During a joint press conference on 25th February 2021,  with Minister of Electronics and IT, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad and Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Prakash Javadekar,  announced guidelines for OTT platforms. They stated that the ministry is not bringing censorship to OTT, but letting the OTT platforms offer age-based classifications themselves.

The Indian government has proposed a new regulatory model to govern over-the-top(OTT) video streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hotstar. The regulatory model called Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 has been provisioned under Section 87 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. According to the new regulation these video streaming apps will now have to classify their content into five different age-based categories namely
  •  Adult category
  •  U/A 16+(content that can be viewed by a person below sixteen years)
  •  U/A 13+(content that can be viewed by a person below thirteen years)
  •  U/A 7+ (content that can be viewed by a person below seven years)
  •  Universal(suitable for everyone)
Apart from the classification of content, platforms will be required to execute parental locks for content classified as U/A 13+ or higher.

OTT platforms will now have a three-tier censorship model and for now, the government has announced a timeline for the implementation of this draft model.
The first tier of this model involves self-regulation, which the OTTs and social media need to implement.

The second tier involves one or more self-regulatory bodies of publishers. This panel will censor the content, but cannot take any action.

The 3rd tier will have a regulatory officer of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting who can issue a direction to block access to any movie, series being streamed via OTTs, and also content being shared on social media.

Many  film personalities and politicians welcomed new guidelines for OTT platforms by tweeting

FINAL NOTE

According to me this new regulation model will lead to consolidation or termination of small OTTs, which have always been relying upon salacious content. So, this will augur well for global giant OTT’s and TV broadcast based OTTs.

Ever seen this logo? You must have if you are an active social media user. This is a homegrown social media platform which is known as Koo. A few months back, when the government banned hundreds of Chinese apps, the ones “Made in India” started getting popularity for promoting the Indian government’s AatamNirbhar Bharat vision and Koo is one of those apps.

What is Koo?

Koo is a Twitter-like microblogging platform for Indian language speakers. It lets users, communicate in their mother tongue via text, audios, and videos. This app is meant for people to express thoughts, opinions, and strike a discussion on trending topics. Koo has gained immense popularity within a short period.

Key Highlights:
  • It supports different Indian regional languages.
  • You can express your views and opinions on various topics and follow other users on the platform.
  • This app came into existence from the AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge
  • It can be used on both Android and iOS devices.
  • Koo gained popularity after the Indian government locked horns with Twitter over the suspension of a few accounts.
The brain behind this app?

Koo is created by Aprameya Radhakrishna (who co-founded Taxi For Sure) and Mayank Bidawatka (who has co-founded RedBus, The Media Ant anf Goodbox) back in March 2020. The best thing about the app is that it is available in various Indian languages such as Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Oriya, and Assamese. This gives users a better way to express themselves in the language of their choice.

Koo App is the Voice of India in Indian Languages- reads the website bio.

The government had a Digital India AatmaNirbhar Bharat Innovate Challenge which had many participants and Koo was the winner of this challenge, since then Koo is considered as an AatmaNirbhar App.

Koo is getting wordwide recognition after getting promoted by prominent Indian political figures. Earlier it had 1.5 million active users. However last month, the number of users on the App reached 3 million. This is because many Union ministers like Ravi Shankar Prasad, Piyush Goyal, and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shiv Raj Singh Chauhan left Twitter to support Koo.

Why Koo is in News?

Koo became popular when the government of India openly expressed its displeasure with Twitter on late agreement with its emergency orders to remove the hashtag "farmer genocide" and all similar content from its platform.

While the app was launched in early 2020, its participation and the subsequent winning of the government's Aatmnirbhar App Innovation Challenge brought it under the spotlight. Google PlayStore has announced Koo as the winner of the Best Apps of 2020 in the Everyday Essentials category from India.

Since the users of the app have been increasing a French ethical hacker Robert Baptiste, who goes by the name Elliot Alderson on Twitter tweeted saying that he spent 30 minutes on the recently launched app, Koo and was able to access sensitive data such as email IDs, addresses, passwords, etc. He posted screenshots of his finding on Twitter. He also said Koo has some form of Chinese involvement as well. Responding to the claims, Koo's co-founder Aprameya RadhaKrishna said users have voluntarily put their data on display. User data has not been breached in any form and tweeted that the news about data leak is being spoken unnecessarily. However, Baptiste responded to Radhakrishna's claims and called it 'Lies'. Koo has been also accused of cloning Twitter's look and feel. Koo has a yellow bird as the mascot, which is very similar to Twitter's blue one.

Packing Up

So, this was all about this made-in-India app and its rise to prominence. I must say Koo can woo the world.  You should check out this Aatamnirbhar Bharat App.
