Using A Friend's Netflix Account? Bad News For You

Everyone watches Netflix worldwide, and about half of the people do it on someone else's Netflix subscription. It is very common to share Netflix passwords with your friends and family members. We share the subscriptions of all the different streaming channels with the people we know.

Netflix is constantly testing new features. Recently, the company has started testing the new Mobile Plus plan of Rs 299 and now a new feature is being reported in the meantime. Netflix is now testing new features, after which it will be difficult to share the password of your account with friends. The company has taken this decision to prevent unauthorized password sharing.

However, this step can prove to be harmful to the company because after the introduction of this feature, the company can lose many subscribers.

What will change with the new Netflix update?

So far, many people were accessing the same account, but after the introduction of the new feature, one account will be used on one device (as per plan) at one time. After the new update of Netflix,  every time you login, the account holder will get a message in which verification code will be asked.

The report states, "If you do not live with the owner of the account, then you need to have your account." Netflix's Terms of Service states that a customer's account for a streaming service cannot be shared with individuals beyond your home.

According to Gammawire, Netflix is rolling out a test that will make it very difficult to share accounts with customers. It has been told in the report that some users have also received a warning message in which they have been asked to verify their account. In this message, they have been asked whether they are using their account or sharing it with someone else.

So, if you are running your friend's account, then you will have to send a message to your friend for verification. This message will go directly to the account holder. That is, if you are using someone's account, then you have to be in contact with that person so that you can ask for the password from him/her.

Advantage of this feature

The advantage is that if you have a single device login plan and you are watching Netflix, then you will have the option to not verify the message. In such a situation, with whom you have shared the password, he/she will not be able to watch Netflix at the same time. A Netflix spokesperson has said that this will help a lot in account security. You people might not know but this feature is already in Disney Plus Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video.

An account holder can cancel your subscription

For the users who have received these popups, it is written that if you are not the owner of this account, then you will need your own account to watch Netflix. Users also have the option of a verification letter, which means they can cancel if they do not want to give the code to anyone immediately. At the same time, if the account holder cancels your access, then you have to buy the account by paying money.

This feature is currently being tested on TV. At the same time, it has been tested only in some countries. However, when it will be rolled out globally,  is not currently known.

This is Netflix's first major move against a very common phenomenon, where people share passwords to avoid membership fees, considered by many users to be quite high. Netflix CEO Reid Hastings previously said in 2016 that password sharing is something to learn to live with, as there is very valid password sharing.

About 40 percent of Americans say they use Netflix with a login and password that they do not have. According to a survey by LendingTree in February, 72 percent said that they let someone else use their account.
